The gov't is chronically incapable of doing any public infrastructure. Even if they do construct it, it will be unusable. Like all the motorway bridges that are closed because the retards didn't wash the gravel they dredged from the English channel and the salt has weakened the concrete
The public are intolerant to public works projects and nimbyism is out of control here, despite everyone knowing it's necessary given the state of the UK. They'll advocate for public projects, but not near their homes
Whenever a project happens in the UK it's suspended whenever an artefact is found, pending archaeological excavations. Naturally this will be happening every inch of this project.
Tunnels are fucking expensive and Wiltshire doesn't have the cash or the collateral to buy a loan. Our economy is agricultural and most of our employees don't pay tax (fully half work for the military, the rest work cash in hand and are biologically driven to commit tax fraud)
The road doesn't need a bypass. Traffic is low and there are equally fast alternative routes. BUILD A FUCKING RING ROAD AROUND CHIPPENHAM, CALNE, AND DEVIZES YOU CUNTS

Basically it's some cunt's white elephant project that has stuck around

Option 1: it's turned into new builds

The village voted for 6 new builds using local and historic construction, with 5 bedrooms, for young families, and a price not exceeding £250k. Average house price here is £650k. Yeah that'll happen.

Option 2: it's turned into a pub and village shop, providing the village with local entertainment, amenities, and employment. The locals shot that down because pubs apparently will create youth crime (even though the median age here is 68) and local retail threatens the character of the village (ie it will lower the house prices which are so vastly overvalued that nobody is buying them)

Basically the attitude here is everyone hates the status quo but nobody is prepared to risk things getting worse
The locals wanted our farmer to buy the land but he just laughed and said he didn't want it
